This month, we catch up with Sonal Biswas, Zaui’s Quality Assurance Engineer.
As part of our QA team, Sonal ensures that the new features we add to our online reservation system are free of bugs, holding our products to high standards for our customers. Being a detail-oriented test engineer, she always looks for the slightest hint of bugs. Here’s our chat with Sonal Biswas.
What is the most thrilling part of being a QA Engineer at Zaui?
Understanding the intricate workflows of our products and applying them in testing to ensure that the Zaui community gets high-quality products to manage their operations efficiently and enhance their bookings.
What’s your process while working on a new project?
As a QA engineer, I always pay close attention to the requirements and document them in order to make sure that we meet adequate test coverage.
What have you found most challenging in your role?
Sometimes, too many settings and configurations in the product increase the risk to the overall test approach.
How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t work in tech?
I am responsible for ensuring that our product releases meet all the requirements to satisfy customers’ expectations and are top-notch, making business operations easier for tour operators.
How have you been able to learn and grow at Zaui?
Folks from all teams across Zaui come together to provide support and help everyone. In my role as a QA engineer, the support team helps me understand the product functionality, and the dev teams help me with insights into code details. The management team also works closely with everyone, making us feel supported and comfortable.
Do you use any specific tools or have a routine that helps you stay productive?
I keep track of all open and newly closed defects, which helps me perform effective validation. I also take quick, short breaks in my work schedule by moving around and enjoying nature.
What does your typical workday look like?
A day in my work life starts with the warm company of my colleagues, discussing various aspects of the work-in-progress projects and helping with project execution. I love my meetings with support as I get to know more about the intricate details of our product and feel accomplished when the critical application workflows are without any defects.
Your joyous moment at Zaui
When I got a compliment from my manager! He appreciated me for being a very detailed oriented test engineer, which motivated the development team to push themselves to have fewer defects during testing.
What helps you feel connected to your coworkers while working remotely?
We share personal stories and care for each other. Working at Zaui has helped me create special bonds with many of my coworkers.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also love cooking, dancing, and travelling to different places.
What’s the most common question people ask you when they find out what you do?
They are curious about the work culture at Zaui, and oh, they also ask whether I receive any discounts for booking tours with Zaui clients 😃!
If you could pick anybody to be your mentor, who would it be?
My husband is my mentor; he motivates and guides me in the right direction whenever needed.
What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?
I take a deep breath and explain to myself objectively that everything is temporary, and I should just continue to deliver my best, and things will turn around in a good way!
What advice would you give to new Zauians in their first month?
Not to get overwhelmed with the detailed and complex configuration settings!
